In this rather feminine piece of female photography Francesca's back is framed by my favourite silk Kimono, with the background intentionally bleached out in Photoshop. The shafts of sunlight were also added later, also in Photoshop.Click here to return to female photography in black and white

This image makes a nice counterpoint to the two images either side of it on the thumbnails page. It shows the more romantic side of my photography. I enjoy this range, I never get bored, as the same session can vary in mood from moment to moment with a simple costume and lighting change.


I like to mix artificial lighting with natural daylight, and then vary the strength in Photoshop.

My photography started out as reference material for my painting, so I approached it with a total lack of reverence as far as producing a polished final product. The kind of product that might be suitable for advertising for example. This gave me the freedom to develop my own style.


One inspiration was the early photography of Degas, which was technically atrocious, but artistically wonderful.
