the very essence of female photography


the delicate pattern of shadows cast by the lace compliment the female body perfectly



Another lucky break, ( female photography is full of them ) as I honestly had'nt thought of the shadows that might be cast by the lace hem, of what would normally be a long Victorian pettycoat.

Once again you can see the importance of the right props, and for these kinds of clothes there is nowhere better than the twice yearly antique fair held in the center of Bordeaux. The best find ever was the fabulous and fragile lace under garment that Francesca's wearing back to front.

Who cares if it's the wrong way round, when it can frame the back so well!

When it comes to clothes and how they are normally worn, throw out the rule book, and see how your photography benefits from the enormous freedom it gives you.

After all, the function of clothes is normally to cover the body, but our goal is to uncover the body in photography, in interesting ways. It's difficult job, but I guess somebody has to do it!



This photo shows clearly the visual interest created by the lace, and the cast shadows. There is no real substitute for antique hand made lace like this. Fortunately you can still find it at a reasonable price.
