The light is perfectly arranged to highlight Francesca's body, just catching the tip of her right nipple. I've done a little amateur astronomy and have a reasonably powerful telescope, and the effect reminds me of the way the peaks on the moon catch the light when there's a half moon. If you look closely at the right arm you can see the wash of reflected red light, and again on her left hip. The purple of the back of the Kimono introduces a nice color accent.The final touch is the wisp of hair hanging down over the left eye. All these individual effects add depth and richness to the photograph. The vase is a Japenese decoration by Zsolnay, the hungarian ceramic studio, circa 1927
